After building a couple of guitars from existing models, I wanted to make something unique: a one-off built from scratch, tailored exactly to my needs, using as few ready-made materials and parts as possible. Building from scratch also let me do things no production guitar does.
The short 22.5" scale makes the guitar playful and easy to play, and combined with brass hardware gives a soft, warm, full sound. The strings extend behind the bridge, which creates strange "third bridge" overtones and harmonics, and they double as a harp-like instrument to play alongside.
The body is reclaimed black alder from my grandfather, finished with handmade casein paint. The neck is a leftover piece of maple with a subtle, unexpected flame. The hardware is made from scrap brass, steel, and other repurposed materials, and the pickup is a custom widerange humbucker handmade by Rautia Guitars.
